27/7/2008 Must be time for the engine-in photos
10/7/2008 Well I've been sick for the last 4 days. Slowed my progress - needed to sleep a lot and haven't eaten much. I had a slipped upper vertibrae - not sure what from - and it was pinching my Vagus nerve. = altered breathing, appetite, sleeping ...
7/7/2008 Thanks. I don't expect any issues with separation as I made sure there was at least an inch of overlap and the joins are also done as hems (folded over edges). Looks great in the car. Will get some photos this weekend.
6/7/2008 very nice glen. any problems with where the two vinyl sections joined ? will they pull apart in hot weather or cold weather ? tool monkey..... I'd hesitate to call my wife that. welcome back.
6/7/2008 OK boys and girls - so having balls paid off. The dash looks awesome. Reassembled over the weekend and reinstalled on Sunday. My new girlfriend Bernie - affectionately referred to as my Tool Monkey on Sunday helped me to install it in the car. How ...
28/6/2008 so, you just got vinyl, stretched and clamped it in place with contact adhesive as the fixer ? Looks simple enough. Dunno if I have the cahoonies or skill to try i though I tried that with the dash in place on the sprint in 1986 with mediocre results ...
28/6/2008 Dash pics are here: http://www.triumphowners.com/collection.cgi?task=PHOTO&photocategoryID=1626&sectionID=111032 Some for your viewing pleasure ...
26/6/2008 seems like hassles from beginning to end Glen. Reading between the lines the stag ain't the favourite car at the moment machining the pistons ? crikies mate, that must have made you groan. hang in there, even in my bashed around example, the ...
22/6/2008 I'll sort out some dash details / pictures in a few weeks. The motor is almost done. I didn't get any in progress shots as I wasn't around much. I've got a pic of it almost finished - IGNORE THE OLD ROCKER COVERS - these are just there whislt we ...
19/6/2008 awesome news glen, good to hear. this dash restoration sounds ambitious, do you have any links to how you did the 2500 dash restoration. Or would you be good enough to snag some pics as you do this one ? stu
14/6/2008 Right o me mateys: getting my mojo back. BAM Some progress: New bushes ordered and machined. Block rebored ($160) Tanked block ($64) Removed broken studs ($150) Phwoahhh? Ass & Align & check T.E.B ($80) Fit helicoil ...
26/5/2008 Hey guys, some progress to report. Finally the machine shop has finished faffing about with my block/rods etc. After fitting and machining the con rod bushes they found that there wasn't enough brass in the bushes - went through to steel. My engine ...
18/5/2008 Only logged into this section today after a bit of time doing other stuff and saw your sad news Glen. Sorry to hear mate, take care of yourself. Cheers, Glen.
17/5/2008 Thanks guys. Appreciate your kind words. Will be looking at separation of assets this weekend apparently. Will find out where this leaves the house/cars/garage etc. Retail therapy in progress - purchased this ...
10/5/2008 Shit Glen - that's awful mate.
10/5/2008 hang in there glen
9/5/2008 Project on hold. My beloved partner Amanda of 9 years has left me. Spent the last few weeks/months trying to convince her to stay but to no avail. Messes with your priorities when you realise that your rock is gone. I miss her. Reassessing ...
21/4/2008 Stag Rear battery conversion. My new problem for today. So the Stag has bugger all room in the engine bay and is super heavy at the front. Obvious answer - move the battery to the back. Now... where does it go? I did a bit of a search and came ...
21/4/2008 F**K IT! Numbers and laws / rules are getting me nowhere. Substitute approximation: A 2500 Free vs Fitted Length is 12.91/8.2 for an 'S' and 12.41/7.7 for a Mk2 i.e. 1.574:1 or 1.612:1. Let's use 1.6:1 as the S spring is clearly closer to the ...
21/4/2008 Yesterday I did three more thin coats of body filler - a lot of sanding - and a coat of primer surfacer. It's looking a lot better but there's still a few bumps to sort ...

Acquisition:

Purchased sight unseen off ebay (knowing the body needed tidying up and that the motor was blown) from Adam Aitken in Blackheath NSW in late Dec 2007 with Original Hardtop, Automatic, Blue interior (Sapphire Blue paint code 76) and grey carpet. Adam had owned it for approx 10 years.

Plate says 6-74 so it's a middle of the year model. After digging around it seems the mkII as it's known came in 1973 so despite the lack of alloy sill covers (which seem to have come a year or so later) this seems to be a mkII. Also according to Rimmer Bros the 'A' in my commision plate means it's got a Borg Warner 65 Gearbox as BW would have meant 35 BUT after removing the gearbox I've found that it is a 35? What's going on? Perhaps the box was replaced at some point or Rimmer Bros. is wrong.

According to the passport of sale that goes with the car this is still on its original motor which makes her rather special in that she's pretty original throughout. Apart from what looks like a gearbox downgrade???

I used VIP Automotive Solutions to ship it from Blackheath NSW to Tassie for $2325 (Ouch!) but I highly recommend this company - they got it on a monday afternoon and I had it by lunch thursday same week - after 1500oddKm and a ferry crossing with a blown motor!

Ownership History:
  • Sold by Reg Smith Motors P/L, Artarmon, NSW on November 5th 1974
  • First purchased by Mrs P. M. Naher, Castlecrag, NSW as Registration #PN 232
  • Second Owner Horst Schuerger, Chester Hill, NSW, as Registration #IS137
  • Changed hands somewhere early in 1997 to Third Owner Adam Aitken, Blackheath NSW as Registration and changed to #AWA074 later on.
