This is the only Triumph I still own (the Stag I had got sold back to my Dad). On the registration it is listed as a GT6 convertible, but it is a real “bits & pieces” car. The body & chassis (including suspension and brakes) and hardtop are all Spitfire Mk3. The bonnet, instruments, seats and some of the interior is GT6. The engine is out of a late model 2500 TC.
The car is currently a more a bunch of parts in boxes as opposed to a car – it was time to fix some of the damage done by previous owners, and the more I look the more I find.
Work is finally progressing on the car (have met another Spitfire nut who has some history restoring/modifying Spitfires) and a bit more of its history has been revealed – at least one previous owner had it running on PI and used to bait (and beat) Porsche drivers in it – and munch diffs on an all too regular basis.
The story is that this was one of two convertible GT6s built for racing by either Triumph Australia or a dealership. When the PO mentioned above bought it, it was fitted with a lot of very trick gear such as 4 pot calipers – but they were unfortunately sold as someone offered him more money for the parts than he’d paid for the car.
Love to hear from anyone who may know some more about this car.
