preps for registration

Hi all, I purchased a 1978 model 2500S saloon, which I purchased a few years ago, and am currently preparing for registration. It is in remarkably good original condition... the last rego. label fitted being 1991... and with (clearly genuine) only 64,000 kms on it. The SU carburettors, intake manifold, air filter assembly, radiator, thermo-fan and hoses, etc. had been removed by the previous elderly owner (purchased from a 'deceased estate', learned of at a Beaudesert swap meet). Apparently the carbies and manifold had been removed to enable polishing of the manifold (many factors regarding his estate led me to think he was a bit eccentric). He had also dismantled one of the carbies for buffing... the suction chamber was screwed to a timber jig, which he had spun it his lathe. I was intending to re-kit both with the kits received with the car, but due to limited time I've since reassembled the dismantled one and fitted them to the manifold, which I'd already refitted. I can always rekit them later if necessary. The previous (possibly eccentric, or somewhat foresightful) owner collected many new and used spare parts for the vehicle, including such things as big end bearings and piston ring sets... when (according to receipts) the car was only 3 years old! Consequently, it has not just been a jigsaw puzzle to see how all the hoses would fit... as there's an excess of used hoses from other vehicles! Anyhow, refitting of the carbies and many of the hoses has been 'relatively' straight-forward, as the puzzle unravelled as the carbies went on. But the vacuum tubes and heater hoses don't appear to 'fall into place'. I have 2 workshop manuals (British Leyland UK 2000-2500 Repair Operation Manual, publication no. AKM 3974... and Autobooks 784 2000 Mk2, 2.5 PI, 2500 1969-1977), but neither show sufficient detail or illustrations of the general engine bay layout (particularly for a 1978 model). I've also searched the net quite extensively for info, and have printed a few photos of engine bays of cars listed for sale. This has helped, but not enough. Re the vacuum connections; The vacuum tube assembly visible sitting above the radiator (in the photo '2011-10-24th - vac tubes + heater hoses to go - SANY7454.JPG' ) are the main items that remain to sort out... where the small in-line canisters should be mounted (under the rear rocker cover nut?), and how they connect (to rear carbie, oil breather, distributor, etc.). Re the heater hoses, I presume; The lower heater hose goes to the rear of the cylinder head (one hose seems a good fit, and it also looks this way in the manual). And it's logical that the upper heater hose should run forward to the thermostat housing... though I don't have a hose or pipework for this. It looks as if there is provision for a pipe (metal line) to be fed through the underside of the intake manifold. I considered that as hot water is only intended to flow through this line to the heater when the weather is cold, this would then aid in pre-heating the intake air mixture (much like the 'carby-heat' on light aircraft). I was hoping to have it running this week, as my main car has to go to Brisbane soon for a least 3 weeks... so was hoping to register the Triumph so that I've transport during that time. And as can possibly be realised from the few photos I've uploaded, the car does not need 'restoration', but merely minor reassembly, a general clean up and 'service' (change all oils and brake fluid, etc. plus greasing). Can anyone kindly send me some photos of the engine bay of 'late model' 2500S or 2500TC vehicle/s? Particularly the 'problem areas' mentioned above. Or alternatively, is there a vehicle local to me that I can view? I am located near Tweed Heads South, NSW. Incidentally, my dad purchased a 1971 2.5PI when I was a kid, and I've always loved the Triumph cars... hence having bought a 1964 2000 Mk1 in 1977... and since this one. Can't wait to get it on the road! I've so far been in contact with Martin and Garth... but can anyone else advise? Thanks! Regards, BradC
